The history of Mother's Day is centuries old and goes back to the times of ancient Greeks, who held festivities to honor Rhea, the mother of the gods. The early Christians celebrated the Mother's festival on the fourth Sunday of Lent to honor Mary, the mother of Christ. Interestingly, later on a religious order stretched the holiday to include all mothers, and named it as the Mothering Sunday. The English colonists settled in America discontinued the tradition of Mothering Sunday because of lack of time. In 1872 Julia Ward Howe organized a day for mothers dedicated to peace. It is a landmark in the history of Mother's Day.

In 1907, Anna M. Jarvis (1864-1948), a Philadelphia schoolteacher, began a movement to set up a national Mother's Day in honor of her mother, Ann Maria Reeves Jarvis. She solicited the help of hundreds of legislators and prominent businessmen to create a special day to honor mothers. The first Mother's Day observance was a church service honoring Anna's mother. Anna handed out her mother's favorite flowers, the white incarnations, on the occasion as they represent sweetness, purity, and patience. Anna's hard work finally paid off in the year 1914, when President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the second Sunday in May as a national holiday in honor of mothers.

Mother's Day has flourished in the United States. Actually, the second Sunday of May has become the most popular day of the year. Although Anna may not be with us, Mother's Day lives on and has spread to various countries of the world. Many countries throughout the world celebrate Mother's Day at various times during the year, but some such as Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Australia, and Belgium also celebrate Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May.

July 13, 2009 - In Salon Advanced Color Education Class

Advanced Coloration is manufactured in ITALY, the fashion and hair color

capital of the world, and is the best hair color available to date.  Advanced

Coloration uses a newly developed technology: refining the color molecule

to a micro-pigment, with the highest purity color pigment available on the

market today, combining with the lowest ammonia content and superior

conditioning complex, imparting unparalleled luminous shine and vibrant

long-lasting color.  Your hair color is literally in High Definition.

Because of this new technology, nearly no damage occurs in the hair

coloring process. The color pigments used in most color lines today are

large molecules called “macro” molecules. Hair color then utilizes agents to

open the hair shaft to deposit the color pigment. Because the molecule is

so large, the hair shaft has to be opened more, to deposit the pigment.

The ingredients that are used in the opening process are what causes most

of the damage and scalp irritation and leaves the hair dull & dry.  If the

color molecules were smaller, the hair shaft would not need to be opened

as far and; therefore, far less of the damaging ingredients would be

needed.  Advanced Coloration refines the color molecule further than

ever before to a “micro” molecule state, requiring nearly none of the

damaging ingredients. This allows the hair shaft to remain more intact;

therefore, leaving the hair in far superior condition with incredible shine

and a healthier scalp.  Imagine how much more vibrant your hair color can

be with so many more color molecules occupying the same space. This is

High Definition technology.

Advanced Coloration is unique and will achieve 100% gray coverage!

Advanced Coloration is truly has brought hair color into the 21st

Century.

When the temperature rises, the great outdoors calls.  All of a sudden - after months of cold dry air, wind and snow - your hair is exposed to a new range of harsh elements including the sun, salt and chlorine.

How do you keep your tresses beautiful all season long? Keeping your hair healthy and well moisturized is key to preventing summer damage.

Summer sun, heat, humidity, and chlorine from the pool can damage your hair’s cuticle and result in dry, drab, split, brittle or frizzy hair and ends. Spending a lot of time outdoors in the sun can both dry out and damage your hair. Split ends are especially a problem during the summer. To avoid them, you should have your hair trimmed on a regular basis during the summer months. We recommend getting your hair cut every six weeks. By doing so, you can eliminate a lot of damaged hair.

To protect your hair from the elements:

  1. 1.Shield your hair from sun damage by using a shampoo and conditioner with UV protection.  Use a leave-in conditioner weekly to give your hair an extra moisture surge and throw your hair in a braid after applying the leave-in product for deeper penetration.

  2. 2.Before exposing your hair to harsh chemicals like chlorine or salt saturate your hair with tap water and comb through a conditioner.  This will provide your hair with a protective barrier, and make it easier to rinse out chemicals.

  3. 3.Clean and condition your hair after swimming. As soon as you can get to a shower rinse out those damaging chemicals. Chlorine and salt tend to cling to your hair, and are difficult to shampoo out. When you hit the showers use a hot oil treatment for one minute before you shampoo, this will effectively clean most of the chlorine out of your hair.

  4. 4.Fend off UV with styling products. You've made it a habit to use sun block on your skin, make sure to treat your locks to the same protection. During the summer include UV hair-care products in your regular regime.

  5. 5.Cover up with style. Find a flouncy hat and scarves you love to protect your hair from the elements while looking fabulous!

  6. 6.Take special care of color-treated hair. Hair that has been dyed or highlighted is especially prone to UV damage. Color-treated hair is already damaged, the sun will make the cuticle even rougher which makes hair more fragile and dried out. Take care of color-treated hair by deep condition your hair using a product containing keratin, jojoba oil, wheat germ protein or other natural ingredients that increases moisture, shine and elasticity.

Our favorite summer hair care line is Redken After Sun.
